19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after March of 2023.

The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
